We are pre-service teachers in our final semester of the K-5 education program at the University of Regina. For our ECMP 355 – Computers in Education class we were required to create a final project. The three of us are also taking ERDG 425: Assessment and Treatment of Reading Difficulties and know that teaching reading can be difficult. While in this class we learned about different reading strategies that are very powerful in classrooms. For our final project we decided to share three of these strategies with the rest of the educational world out there. It is our hope that educators across the world are able to use this website when looking for ideas on how to teach their students reading, or how to improve on their already developed skills. The three strategies that we’ve focused on are: Shared-Book Reading (SBR), Language Experience Approach (LEA), and Directed Reading and Thinking Activity (DRTA).
This site includes a video example of each one of these approaches, it explains their importance and explains how to implement each one of these strategies into your classroom.
